MAKE COURSEPACKS AVAILABLE ONLINE - Not only would electronically accessible coursepacks be a cost efficient option for students, but environmentally friendly as well. As a representative, I will work with departments throughout the colleges to make coursepacks available online. Thus, students wouldnt need to stand in ridiculous lines at copy stores at the beginning of each term, would be able to print only specific pages, and could access the information anywhere.
INCREASE STUDENT-FOCUSED EVENTS - With the cuts in funding everywhere on campus, there has been a lack of attention given to events specifically targeting the student body. If elected, I will continue to work to promote campus-wide events such as the MSA sponsored Homecoming (which I have already worked on over the past year). Additionally, I would work to create events that promote school spirit such as pep rallies or work to bring new speakers, busing to athletic events, or other student oriented venues.
INCREASE FUNDING TO STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS - As a current member of the Budget Priorities Committee, I have already done a lot of work to aid in providing funding for student groups. I would work to further promote funding for organizations through outreach methods so that more of your student dues will go back to the students themselves.
IMPROVE CAMPUS SAFETY - Campus safety continues to be a problem due especially to poor lit areas off campus. I would work alongside MSA's Campus Safety Commission and the Ann Arbor City Council to improve the lighting in these streets, install the Emergency Blue Light Phones in off campus student housing areas, and promote the campus' new text messaging alert system so that all students may be prepared in the event of an emergency.
IMPROVE UHS AND EXPAND HOURS - Based on personal experience and that of many of my peers*, UHS leaves something to be desired. I plan to work with the University's Division of Student Affairs to allow UHS to run more smoothly, have physicians and nurse practitioner's provide more thorough examinations and diagnoses, and expand the hours of operation so that UHS is available outside of students' classtime.
MAKE MSA A PRIMARY RESOURCE FOR ALL STUDENTS - MSA should be an open forum for students to voice their concerns, a venue where students can seek change, and a resource to receive funding for student groups, club sports, etc. Actually, MSA already is all of these things, but students do not perceive MSA this way throughout campus. If elected, I would increase the amount of outreach and promotion to students so that they can take advantage of the plethora of resources that the organization willingly has to offer.
