Develop GSI Consistency: One of the most common complaints I have heard students have about their classes, especially introductory courses, is that sometimes GSIs are very inconsistent from one section to the next. If elected, I will work on meeting with many GSI Coordinators in numerous departments to see how we can improve the consistency of the GSIs from section to section. I also will assemble student panels to talk to the GSIs about how they can improve the overall in-class experience for their students.
Improve Freshman Orientation Experience: Freshman Orientation is a very important time for incoming freshman. It is when they learn all about U of M and how they can succeed here. However, assembling a class schedule is oftentimes very difficult for incoming freshmen. I will work with the Academic Advisers to try to find a way to make this process quicker and less stressful, so the incoming freshman can have a more enjoyable orientation experience.
Increase Student Involvement in Administrative Decisions: Students should be one of the top priorities of the administration here at U of M, but it seems that this is not always the case. It is very common for the administration to make decisions that have a huge impact on student life here, without ever consulting any of the students it will impact. If elected, I will try to increase student input on important decisions, such as the hiring of new Academic Advisers as well as professors and lecturers.
