Hi, my name is Cassie Feldman and I am running for MSA-Engineering Representative. I am a junior in Industrial and Operations Engineering and am originally from St. Louis, Missouri. I am currently an MSA Representative, part of the MSA Campus Safety Commission, Co-Chair of the MSA Health Issues Commission and am an active and very involved sister of Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority. Below are some of my plans if re-elected as an MSA Representative. Remember to Stay Classy, Vote for Cassie!
- Busing to Away Football Games - I am currently working with other MSA Representatives to find a way to bus U of M students to nearby away football games. Hopefully by next year, students will be able to travel to the Notre Dame and Ohio State football games for little or no cost.
- Create a Guide to New Students on Campus Life. Transitioning into college can be rough for many new students. I plan to work with the administration to prepare a student guide for new students transitioning to the University of Michigan which will be given to new students free of charge every year. This guide will contain lingo that students use, an accurate campus map, popular restaurants to go to, sporting event schedules and other useful information. Hopefully something such as this will ease new student’s worries about life on a big campus.
- Lower Textbook Prices. Textbooks are expensive and when you have three or four classes and multiple books for each class, the prices begin to add up. I plan to work with professors and administrators to implement the recommendations of the University’s Textbook Taskforce and continue the ongoing efforts of the Michigan Action Party to ‘protect your wallet.’
- Extend Bus Transportation. I plan to work with the University to extend bus hours on the weekend and create more bus stops in popular off-campus living areas. Furthermore, I will work to increase the hours available and create more locations for the Free Ride Home shuttle service from the UGLI and the Duderstadt Center, and work to help restart the SafeWalk program to ensure that all students won’t have to walk alone at night.
- Increase Funding for Engineering Societies. From sitting on one of the MSA funding bodies for a semester, I know what these funding bodies look for in applications in order to allocate funds. Therefore, I will encourage all engineering societies to apply for BPC and CSC funding, and will always be open to meeting with any society representatives to review their applications prior to them applying.
- Extend UHS Hours and Services – When a student is sick on a Sunday, they have two options: either wait until Monday to go to UHS or go to the U of M Hospital to get treated and pay a large sum of money. I want to have UHS open for a few hours on Sundays or even have a doctor or nurse practitioner stationed in the University Unions so that students can be treated. Furthermore, I want to expand UHS services to North Campus so that sick students living on North Campus won’t have to travel far to be treated.
These are a few of the things that I will strive to work for if elected to MSA. If you want to know more about my platform or the Michigan Action Party, I encourage you to go to www.michiganactionparty.com or you can e-mail me personally (cfeldman@umich.edu) and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks!
Vote Cassie Feldman for MSA Engineering Representative on March 19 & 20!!!
