Hey everyone,
My name is Paula Klein, and I am running for an MSA-LSA Representative spot. I was born and raised in Piedmont, California, yet for the past three years have been calling Ann Arbor my home. I am earning a B.S in Biology and a B.A in History with a predominant focus on conflict and military studies. I have been a representative on MSA for two semesters as the Community Service Commission Chair, and served two additional semesters as the Budget Allocations Committee Chair on LSA-SG prior to that. Government has undoubtedly been one of the most significant contributors to my experience as an undergraduate, and I cannot think of any better way solidify my four years here, than to continue working hard on MSA. Additionally, I am running with the Michigan Action Party because of the ideals on which we were founded. MAP brings together dedicated, capable, and diverse individuals who are passionate about government and will be invaluable as representatives.
Some of my main goals include:
Provide More Money for Student Groups
Through my work with the Community Service Commission (as well as previous work with the budget allocations committee on LSA-SG) I have been privy to the multitude of incredible events that depend on government funding to be successful. These events make our campus vibrant, and I wish to extend our outreach to student groups, as well as the amount of student groups that get funded.
Mobilize Campus for the 2008 Elections
Part of the reason I love being a wolverine, is that our campus has such a rich history of social activism. As Michigan students we have, and will continue to play a key role in shaping the outcome of the 2008 presidential elections. I worked extensively with voter registration as a campus coordinator through the College Democrats in 2006, and want to continue this tradition working directly with MSA’s Voice Your Vote Commission, and coordinating politically educational events and debates to empower the student body.
Improve the hours and care at University Health Services
Before I had ever seen the U of M campus, I heard student reviews that ranked UHS poorly. I wish to extend the operating hours of UHS and decrease the wait time for both walk in patients, and those who make appointments.
Increase Communication between Students and Their Assembly
We have the potential to provide so much to the University, yet with out input from our constituents, we cannot accurately represent all the voices on this campus. I want to open up the communication lines between students and their governing bodies, as well as actively advertise all the resources we have to offer.
It would mean so much to me if you would vote me and the rest of the Michigan Action Party on March 19th and 20th! If you have any questions or comments on any issues I would love to talk with you. My email address is riskyp@umich.edu please feel free to send me a message!
