Better student resources in Residence Halls: It is extremely important for dorms to have the necessary resources for their residents. Standardizing cleaning procedures and making sure they are done on a daily basis are key to student satisfaction in our Residence Halls. If elected, I will help to develop and maintain these standards. Repairing old equipment and purchasing new equipment when necessary (such as vacuums, mops, etc.) will cease the unnecessary waiting time for desired items. I will also create an email address for students to contact when they are in need of equipment or to report sub-par cleaning standards.
Reinforcing pride within the College of LSA: Just because we’re not in a specialized school or college doesn’t mean that LSA students can’t cultivate our own unity and pride! Because LSA is so large, it can be difficult to see ourselves as a separate entity. I have already been planning and organizing a Senior LSA Graduation Event which will take place this April. Keeping this new tradition alive in the future, and even extending it to more Senior events towards Graduation, is one of my main goals. I feel it is important for LSA students to be proud of the college they attend. Implementing various “LSA Nights” open only to LSA students to discuss advising, scheduling, or college life in general would be beneficial to students. I plan on proving to students this: “LSA…Three Letters. Infinite Possibilities.”
Improving LSA Academic Advising: Many students feel dissatisfied, or even sent in the wrong direction, by their advisors. Sometimes advisors contradict other advisors, and this creates confusion and problems for students. Also, many students at the University of Michigan don’t know how to contact their advisor, or when to make an appointment. I plan on working with Advising to develop an emailing system where advisors are able to email reminders, contact information, and hours they are available periodically throughout the semester. Also, creating surveys for students to fill out after meeting with their advisors will give students the chance to provide feedback which can be used to strengthen Advising consistency. I plan on looking into a “Rate My Advisor” website where students are also able to express their opinions as well.
