SAVE SOME CASH, VOTE FOR ASH

Hey there! My name is Ashley and I'm from Troy, Michigan. I have been a representative of the Michigan Student Assembly since November and feel that I have only just begun the work I would like to do for U-M students. Below are a few things that I will accomplish if elected as a MSA-LSA rep.

Extend blue bus hours

I want to extend the hours of the U-M buses to 4am. By implementing an MCard swiper into the buses, you can pay for a ride using Entre Plus after 2am. The charge will only be $1-$2; much less than the base charge for a cab. This past semester I went to a conference called the Association of Big Ten Students where the student governments for all of the Big Ten schools meet up to discuss issues on campus. A number of the schools already had a program like this, so I think it will certainly get done. The average college student takes a $10 cab ride twice a month. You could save $18 per month!

Bring bottle return machines to campus

Almost all soda cans and bottles can be returned for 10 cents at gas stations and grocery stores. For those who live on campus without cars, this can be a dilemma. I will work to place bottle return machines into dorms so that students can have easy accessibility to easy money. This process has already begun during my past term as a representative. I have been speaking with the Environmental Issues Committee to start this process rolling. The average college students drink 2-3 cans of soda in a day. You could save $10 per month!

Increase MSA sponsorship and collaboration

MSA has 23 committees and commissions that all have a specific focus. By increasing their outreach, student groups can easily collaborate with MSA to subsidize prices of events and bring increase attendance. Being the Co-Chair of the LGBT Commission, I have had the opportunity to reach out to other LGBT student organizations on campus and plan collaborative events. The attendance at these is always much greater and much more diverse than an event of a single group. I want to make sure that all commissions reach out to student organizations with similar missions and goals. The average student organization gets $9,000 of funding per semester. Your student group could save $4,500 per semester!
